About the Client:
The Client was looking to understand the future of steel. They engaged PreScouter in this Research Support Service Project to investigate emerging technologies that could either disrupt their business or provide an opportunity for expanding their existing market share.
Challenge:
To help the Client learn about disruptive technologies such as innovative fabrication methods, better alloys, and new applications for steel, PreScouter’s goal was to investigate how new materials and manufacturing methods could potentially displace steel in the next 10 to 20 years.
Approach and outcome:
PreScouter engaged in secondary and primary research using resources such as academic research, white papers, and case studies to identify new materials that could potentially reduce the demand for metals used in steel.
The team identified new applications and profiled technologies with the potential of impacting the production and use of these metals, engaging with Subject Matter Experts to aid in their predictions of changes and trends for the following 10-20 years.
During the engagement, PreScouter presented the Client with 11 Intelligence Briefs providing technology profiles, investigation results, and analysis for them to use when building a future roadmap for the organization.
Impact of PreScouter’s work:
PreScouter’s insights helped the Client build up a body of knowledge regarding material options for the next 10 to 20 years and aided them in making decisions about collaborating with key players. A similar analysis was conducted for copper and nickel.
