TEXAS STATE UNIVERSITY, TEXAS, USA. Researchers are currently working on a system that tracks the movements of the eyes with the help of different kinds of methods. The computer will be able to draw pattern of the actual movement of a person’s eyes. With the new system, it aims to be a better alternative to all the different biometric systems. Currently, passwords are the most common type of biometric security system. Finger prints, palm prints and brain patterns are just some of the popular types of biometric security systems being used in different industries nowadays.
As of the moment, the technology is not ready for use because it has not been perfected yet. It still recognizes the wrong person at least once in every three tests which is not good enough in terms of security system quality. Although the technology has not been completed yet, it may be used together with the other biometric systems being used today. It will surely be a fool-proof method when you have different security systems working at the same time.
Oleg Komogortsev is an assistant professor in the computer science department at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. He is also the head of the research team working on the eye movement biometric system. He said that his method will become beneficial to iris scanners and retinal scanners. These 2 types of biometric authentication are used to analyze the pattern of the iris. However, it may not work 100% accurately all the time as the human retinal patterns change as we age. With the new system, it will surely work even better as far as biometric systems are concerned.
