About the client:
The client, a global manufacturer of high-performance inks, was seeking alternative sources and suppliers of a particular highly in-demand chemical for their ink and coating products.
Challenge:
The client engaged PreScouter in this Research Support Service License to look for nontoxic and environmentally friendly technologies (i.e., free of melamine-formaldehyde resin) that would serve as substitutes for resins and crosslinkers that cure at 130-200 °C.
Approach:
PreScouter identified compounds that were described as alternatives to the compound of interest, as well as potential manufacturers that may have been producing them on a commercial scale. After shortlisting the most promising compounds and manufacturers, PreScouter anonymously reached out to those companies to get a deeper understanding of the technical properties of those compounds, their availability, and their price.
Outcome:
PreScouter presented the client with 5 additional suppliers of the compound of interest and 8 chemicals that could be used as alternatives. The team also recommended 5 potential suppliers for the alternative chemicals out of the 17 companies identified.
