About the client:
The client, a leading manufacturer of water-dispensing products, was looking to position themselves within the circular economy of plastics by learning more about sustainable alternatives to currently used plastics, life cycle analysis, and partners for recycling plastics.
Challenge:
The client engaged PreScouter in this Research Support Service Project to help them identify a roadmap and pathway to facilitate a strategic and cost trade-off decision to determine how to position themselves within a circular economy for plastics.
Approach:
To tackle the client’s challenge, PreScouter worked to identify different sustainable polymers that could be used as an alternative to the plastics they were using in their water filtration product. PreScouter classified various solutions in different categories of plastics (e.g., biobased, biodegradable, recyclable).
The real benefits of the scouted sustainable polymers were evaluated by comparing the “cradle-to-grave” carbon footprints of polymers to those in use. The different end-of-life options were considered and analyzed to understand the scenario better.
Outcome:
PreScouter presented a clear roadmap with two different possible scenarios for the client to achieve sustainability within their product lines.
